Future City Competition serves students in 7th and 8th grade. Sponsored by National Engineers Week, this national program introduces students to engineering with the popular Sim City software. Students design future cities with simulation software, build scale models, write essays and give oral presentations on their city's design. See competition info for details.

Benefits For Students

Students better understand practical applications of math, science, social studies and computer learning as they plan their own cities

They have fun working with SimCity software (provided free to registered schools) Teams work with engineers assigned to support their learning While learning about cities, students develop a project plan, work in teams, write an essay about their city, develop a scale model with recycled materials, and make an oral presentation of their work at a regional competition on January 26th, 2008. One team wins a trip to compete at Nationals in Washington, D.C., from Feb. 21-23, 2008.

Congratulations to this year's champion, Franklin Middle School. Rounding out the top 5 finishers were (2) Washburne Middle School - Neo Terra; (3) Chicago State University - Echo Verdia; (4) St. Paul of the Cross School - Karteros; (5) Science Academy - Newland. See a list of special awards and their criteria that judges will base their selection on. Don't be late!!! Incorporate the criteria into your model so you can take home a prize! Make sure you check back to see new awards as they are posted.
